AUS40 or Marine urea solution 40%
AUS40 stands for Aqueous Urea Solution 40% (also known as Marine Urea Solution 40%). It is a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) for industrial plants and marine vessels, used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. It is commonly found in large diesel engines, such as those of marine vessels and large trucks, as well as in diesel generators and steam generators (boilers) in industrial plants that require exhaust gas treatment before release into the atmosphere, thus promoting environmental friendliness.
Aqueous Urea Solution 40% is a highly purified urea solution with a 40% urea concentration. It is used as a reagent to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from combustion in diesel engines. This solution is injected into the SCR system and reacts with NOx to convert it into nitrogen and water before being released into the atmosphere. This helps reduce air pollution and improves engine efficiency.
Properties of AUS40 or Marine Urea Solution 40%
Aqueous Urea Solution 40% has specific properties essential for reactions within SCR systems, as follows:
- It is a 40% concentration of urea in water, made from high-purity urea, free from minerals and heavy metals such as
- Phosphate, Aluminum, Calcium, Iron, Copper, Zinc, Chromium, Nickel, Magnesium, Sodium, and Potassium (or present in very small amounts and within specified standard limits).
- Freezing point: approximately -11 °C
- Boiling point: 100 °C
- pH: 9 – 10
- Relative density: 1.11 kg/m3 at 20 °C
Benefits of AUS40 or Marine Urea Solution 40%
- Reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 90% through the SCR (Surgical Reactivity Check) system of diesel engines in ocean-going vessels or large tankers, diesel generators, and steam generators (boilers), effectively meeting environmental requirements.
- It improves fuel combustion efficiency in engines. Using AUS40 urea solution not only reduces emissions but also improves fuel combustion efficiency, resulting in cost savings and extended engine life.
- It complies with the regulations and requirements of the International Convention on the Control and Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships (IMO MARPOL Annex VI), which limits sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from ship exhaust.
