Gas leak detector
A gas detector is a device used to detect gas leaks in work areas and to alert about the presence of gas, which may be flammable, toxic, or contain oxygen (for work in confined spaces, etc.), or various other gases, ensuring safety in various industrial plants.
Gas leak detectors can be classified into two types:
1. Portable gas leak detectors
Portable gas detectors are a type of personal protective equipment used to measure the amount of gas in the surrounding area of an operator. They help prevent harm from inhaling excessive amounts of toxic gases or from oxygen deprivation.
2. Gas Leak Detection System
A fixed gas detector system consists of a sensor used to detect gas, a display showing the gas concentration, and an alarm system. This system is specifically designed for each customer to monitor the concentration of leaked gases in the atmosphere within various work areas of the factory and to provide alerts when the gas concentration exceeds a predetermined value.
Furthermore, the gases to be measured can be classified into four groups as follows:
- Flammable gases, such as hydrocarbons, methane (CH4), isobutane (i-C4H10), propane (C3H8), hydrogen (H2), volatile solvents, etc.
- Toxic gases, such as ammonia (NH3), carbon monoxide (CO), chlorine (Cl2), hydrogen fluoride (HF), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur dioxide (SO2), etc.
- Oxygen (O2)
- Other gases, such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), etc.
For safety reasons, gas leak detection equipment and gas leak sensors should be checked and calibrated at least once a year.
Thai Engineering Gas Co., Ltd. (TEG) is a distributor of portable gas leak detection equipment and provides design and installation services for gas leak detection and alarm systems using RIKEN KEIKI brand products from Japan. These systems are used to detect ammonia, refrigerants (HCFCs, HFCs, and Hydrocarbons such as R32, R134a, R410A, etc.), isobutane (R600a), propane (R290), DME, etc. TEG also provides annual inspection and calibration services for gas leak detectors and sensors by expert and specially trained technicians.
